Using a remote email server for your Pipe Ten hosted domains
If you have a domain with it’s name servers pointed to ns1, ns2 or ns3.pipeten.co.uk (or .com) and want to use a third party for your mail you’ll need to do the following:
- First turn off the mail service for your domain.
- Find the domain in question via ‘Domain Settings’ -> ‘Domain Info’ in your hosting control panel.
- Click the ‘Edit’ icon next to the domain you wish to use a remote mail server for.
- Click the ‘On’ icon next to the text ‘Mail Service’, this will turn the mail service off for the domain.
- Then add the MX records for your remote email host.
- Find the domain in question via ‘Domain Settings’ -> ‘Domain Info’ in your hosting control panel.
- Click the ‘Edit’ icon next to the text ‘DNS Configuration’.
- Ensure that all ‘Built in MX records’ have been removed by using the ‘Trash’ icon next any that remain.
- Add a new MX record by clicking the link ‘Add DNS MX Record’.
- You should then:
- Leave the ‘Name’ blank in most cases.
- Leave the ‘TTL’ as 86400 in most cases.
- Enter the ‘Priority’ of 10 in most cases.
- Enter the providers hostname for ‘Data’. In most cases this will be like ‘mail.gmail.com’ and should never be an IP address.
