WordPress 4.8.1 -Maintenance Release

A new version of WordPress has been released comprised of 29 maintenance fixes and enhancements. WordPress users are advised to update to 4.8.1 at the earliest convenience.

WordPress 4.8.1

WordPress versions 4.8.1 is not a security release. So delaying an update will not make your site any less secure however this update fixes 29 different bugs within WordPress so we advise to update when possible.

Noteable maintenance fixes and enhancements

  • ‘Empty Spam’ and ‘Empty Trash’ comment buttons not displayed on mobile
  • Customizer Panel Footer border missing
  • Customizer: Menus: it is far too easy to mistakenly delete a menu because the “Delete Menu” link and the “Add Items” button are too close together
  • REST API: PUT requests fail on Nginx servers when fancy permalinks aren’t enabled

Updating WordPress is as simple as navigating to Dashboard → Updates and clicking Update Now or alternatively by downloading directly.
Your website may be up to date if your site supports automatic background updates, so in cases there may be no need to manually update.
