How to shrink the MSSQL transaction log

In this guide I’m going to go through the process of shrinking an MSSQL database transaction log.

Shrinking your transaction log will allow you to make more space within your database without removing any of the data stored within the tables.

Another handy guide is changing the MSSQL quota

    • First open MSSQL Server Management Studio and connect with the appropriate hostname, username and password for the database you wish to shrink.
    • Then expand Databases.
    • Then right click the database and navigate to Tasks > Shrink > Files
    • Select OK and that should shrink your transaction log. If your log is big please allow a few seconds for this to complete.
