Brief: On Thursday November 5th we will be disabling catch-all email as an option for all new domains. This service modification is being made to address rising spam volume levels as outlined in the blog post Catch-All Email – Spam with a sprinkling of ham.
Expected Impact: Customers with catch-all email already enabled on a mailbox may continue to use the catch-all feature. New customers or customers without catch-all email already enabled will no longer be able to enable catch-all email.
What you need to do: No modifications are being made on active domains and as such no customer action is required. Customers seeking an alternate to catch-all should read Catch-All Email – Spam with a sprinkling of ham.
The IP address and URL of the Horde IMP Webmail service has been changed from http://213.143.3.7/horde/ to http://213.143.3.174/horde/
There usually four ways in which to access IMP Webmail:
Only customers operating custom Webmail DNS, webmail framing or other custom method of linking to Webmail need update or change anything.
IMAP and POP services are entirely unaffected by this change.
Closed.
What is catch-all and what was it good for?
Catch-all could also be called wild-card email, in that a catch-all mailbox allows for an email sent to any username under a domain to be delivered to a single mailbox without having to define a valid username. With us so far?
This is probably best shown by example:
Imagine we have the domain name ‘mycompany.com’ and mycompany has four employees Andrew, Bob, Carl and David with Andrew being the company owner leaving Bob, Carl and David as employees.
Andrew being the boss wants his employees to have their own mailboxes and creates a mailbox for bob@mycompany.com, carl@mycompany.com and david@mycompany.com in addition to his own andrew@mycompany.com.
Now Andrew also wants to give his customers some generic email addresses so that they can contact sales@, info@, support@ etc, without knowing the specific person responsible for each department and have those emails come through to andrew@ for redistribution/forwarding to his team.
Traditionally, Andrew would be entirely correct if he enabled a catch-all on the andrew@mycompany.com mailbox, meaning that if an email was sent to anything except bob@, carl@ david@ it would then go to andrew@.

If you receive an email notification with the the subject ‘Warning (Approaching resource limit)’ it means that a resource in your hosting account has nearly reached its designated quota. This could be your web space, traffic, database or mailbox quota. Unlike the other three, the mail box quota cannot be overused and be charged additionally. It will stop receiving emails when you have reached the maximum limit and won’t start accepting new emails until there is space within the mail box again. There are a number of methods to prevent this from happening so you have a full functioning email address all the times. (more…)
